463 words.

That's how many words came before the words "Type 2 Diabetes" in this article, which was featured on Yahoo's front page. So once again "diabetes" is caused by obesity my friends, and I guess as "diabetics" we should all sign up for gastric bypass! UGH.

'"We have traditionally considered diabetes to be a chronic, progressive disease," said Cummings of the University of Washington in Seattle. "But these operations really do represent a realistic hope for curing most patients."' What a joke!

It seems that since 90% of Diabetics are Type 2, they can just assume that anyone looking at Diabetes related information is a type 2 or looking for type 2 info.

Its typical that they cater to the majority.

Chris I know, but it doesn't take that many brain cells to add a word and a number at the beginning of an article just to let people know. People know that it's called Type 2 Diabetes, so I just wish they would specify. You can't have a type 2 anything without there possibly being a type 1!!!!!

I haven't gone and read the article. Your post tells me enough!

This is so irritating. I totally agree it's not difficult to specify what condition you are talking about! But leaving the type1/2 thing aside, there are plenty of type 2 patients for whom weight loss surgery certainly wouldn't be the answer!

Oh gawd. What a crock! This kind of stuff just pisses me off, as a type 1 but even if I were type 2, this kind of article is pure bull.

I read this same article, Jillian. While I didn't count up how many words it took before they mentioned they were talking about type 2, I knew it was a long wait - too long. It should have been mentioned within the first two sentences. Kind of irritating, huh?

Yay Jillian for actually counting the words and letting us know how long it took for the magic #2 to be cited.
We record the news and so last night, hadn't seen the reports before I was reading about it on blogs. While we watched, I was of course, letting my H know how stupid they were - and what a ruckus this was causing in d-blog land.
You continue to amaze me with your insightful commentaries.

Jillian, I saw this same article and was equally annoyed by it- How hard is it to add two little words!?

With more than 90% of the diabetics in this country having T2, I think we're fighting an uphill battle here. Stinks, huh?

I'm thinking of my dad's type 2, and if he had a gastric bypass, he'd waste away to nothing! He's only chubby in that he's got the middle-aged man gut.

Don't newspeople research their stories anymore before publishing them? I think this is why I didn't end up in journalism.
