So here is an update, I have no idea what I discussed last.
We have called the IE twice since receiving the email about the CGM study. No returned phone calls. IE get your self together man. No worries though I have an appointment on the 5th so if the calls haven't been returned by then... Well let's just say my very protective and advocating mother will be making sure our unhappiness is known. Speaking of getting ready for the appointment I have been in contact with our assigned rep at Animas just to keep her up to date on the goings on or lack there of. I have finished reading Insulin Pumping Demystified, and am now onto Pumping Insulin. I also had blood drawn today, not my favorite experience. I was the kid who cried, threw up, ran around the office, or did anything possible to avoid that chair of terror. Now I am just the teenager who as soon as she walks into that little white room, the phlebotomists immediately asks if I am nervous or if I have a tendency to pass out? The answer to both of those questions is YES! But thankfully I didn't pass out today.
I have been having problems lately with the pen top needles on my insulin pens. I will try to explain this to the best of my ability. I dial up the units on the bottom, stick the needle in my skin, press the "trigger" down, a few units go in, and then it jams! At first I thought it was that there was something under the surface of my skin I was hitting and was blocking the needle tip. Then I took the needle out tried a new site and the trigger still would not budge. Put on a new tip and repeat the process everything goes okay. But this has happened a few times and it is extremely frustrating.
Hey! You can now vote for a new Ultra Mini color and enter a sweepstakes (if you are over 18) to win one of 10,000 Ultra Mini and for 100 special people an iPod Nano.
P.S. Kevin at Parenthetic (Diabetic) is back. I just "lurk" over there, and never leave comments. Maybe now I will.

Picture Perfect.
Glucose readings that is. I received my new One Touch Ultra Mini today and promptly ripped open the box and 5 seconds later a beautiful 117 pops up! I laughed and said to my mom, "that's good enough for a commercial." I also love the fact that the little case has an outside pocket that fits my matching pink cellphone! This will be great when I don't feel like carrying a bulky purse with all my D stuff I can throw an insulin pen, my phone, & even a few dollars in the little pocket and go.

On to other news. I have experienced 6 hypos in 3 days. Which for me is CRAZY to say the least. They weren't severe, only in the 60's and 70's, but they can be a bit exhausting. It's definitely safe to say I have had a lot of Dum-Dums and Swedish Fish (my Hypo fighting weapons of choice). I attribute the lows to all the house work I have been doing in preparation for my extended family coming into town next weekend. Moving and packing boxes, rearranging furniture, and reorganizing apparently does a major number on my blood sugars.

Symlin Success and Free Meters!
So it's been awhile but I was just trying to wait out blogging until I had some good news. And guess what !? I have some! My average reading is down by 50!!! And almost all of my readings have been in the 100's since I reached the maximum 10 unit dose of Symlin. At first I was convinced that this was just another thing that wouldn't work for me. But once I reached 10 units after increasing by 2.5 units every 3 days (starting at 2.5 then 5 then 7.5 and now 10). It has been amazing! I never thought I would see numbers like this without alot of work. The only thing that sucks is the fact that I can barely eat which has landed me in a few lows after meals, because I inject for a certain number of carbs, even though I am cutting that dose in half. There are some meals where I can barely eat a thing and so I end up bottoming out after. No severe hypos though which was my biggest concern. I did have some nausea starting out, but now it has subsided. I don't even mind the added injection, although it dose take more time. They really need to come out with a Symlin pen! That would be AMAZING!!! All in all Symlin may just be my miracle drug, but who knows it might not be for everyone.
